Feedback can come when you\u2019re first putting your hearing aids on, or at more inopportune moments, like when you\u2019re driving down the <a href=\"https:\/\/santabarbaraca.com\/itinerary\/pacific-coast-highway-roadtrip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pacific Coast Highway<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While occasional minor feedback is likely nothing to worry about, in some cases it can be a sign that something is wrong with your hearing aids. If this happens, your earmolds can become loose and don\u2019t seal correctly, which can cause feedback.<\/li><li><strong>Volume is too high. \u00a0<\/strong>If the volume on your device is up too loud, it can force sound to re-enter your hearing aids, which causes whistling.<\/li><li><strong>Earwax buildup. <\/strong>If your ear canal is blocked by too much earwax, sound can\u2019t get through and instead bounces back into your device, causing feedback.<\/li><li><strong>Hearing aid design.<\/strong> Design can have an effect on feedback levels, as <a href=\"https:\/\/asa.scitation.org\/doi\/10.1121\/1.428107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hearings aids with shorter vents have less feedback than those with longer vents.<\/a><\/li><li><strong>Broken tubes.<\/strong> Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids have tubes that connect to the earmold. These tubes can harden and shrink. When this happens, the tubing can sometimes pull at the earmold \u00a0so that it doesn\u2019t have the right fit.<\/li><li><strong>Microphone issues. <\/strong>A loose or displaced microphone is another common cause of feedback.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>What You Can Do to Minimize Whistling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While all of the above problems can cause issues with your hearing aids, thankfully there are solutions to help correct them. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Getting new earmolds fitted to your ear. If you feel like your device is loose, make an appointment with your hearing aid expert.<\/li><li>Avoid keeping the volume on your hearing aids too loud.<\/li><li>Have a daily cleaning routine to help prevent earwax buildup.
